The Besnard Lakes - And This is What We Call Progress

I was lucky enough to catch a show by Montreal's Besnard Lakes last week. Playing in the unlikely surrounds of Shoreditch's achingly-cool (and disgracefully overpriced) Cargo club, the band blasted through a storming set, showcasing new album 'The Besnard Lakes are the Roaring Night'.

Fronted by husband and wife partnership Jace Lasekand and Olga Goreas, The Besnard Lakes are a rare commodity in modern rock music. Though their new long player doesn't deviate a great deal from the well-worn-path of the breakthough LP, The Besnard Lakes are the Dark Horse, it does offer another glorious helping of angled, reverb-soaked psych-rock.

Stand-out tracks, Albatross, Land of Living Skies and And This is What We Call Progress may not offer the world of music anything new, but they do build a monumental landmark from an old blueprint.

Here's a glimpse of their stunning live set, taken from their debut TV performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Brace yourself...
